We are delighted to announce that Dr Victoria Harvey will be joining Murray Edwards in September as the College’s new Senior Tutor.

Victoria joins us from St John’s College, where she is currently Tutor for Undergraduate Admissions and College Tutor for Undergraduates and Postgraduates.

In this key role, she will take the lead in shaping the College’s educational offer and academic life. The Senior Tutor is not only responsible for ensuring that teaching and learning in college is of the highest quality, but also oversees admissions, outreach and widening participation, together with our wide-ranging work to support student wellbeing. She will work closely with the College’s two Directors of Admissions and our Head of Wellbeing, and with the Head of Access and Student Recruitment to further develop our recent initiatives directed at increasing applications.

Victoria, who is also currently Director of Studies for Modern and Medieval Languages at Lucy Cavendish College and University Subject Convener for MML, said she was thrilled to be joining Murray Edwards. She said: “I’m looking forward to playing my part in delivering the excellent education and empowerment of brilliant women which is at the heart of the College’s mission.

“As a keen sportswoman – and President of the Cambridge Real Tennis Club - I’m also very interested in ensuring Murray Edwards students have lots of opportunities to engage with sports and other co-curricular activities.

“And last but not least, I love gardening, so the prospect of enjoying the famous Murray Edwards grounds is very attractive, not to mention the Women’s Art Collection. I feel very lucky to be joining a College with so many inspirational facets.”

Victoria studied for her BA Degree in French at the University of Exeter, before gaining her MPhil at Oxford and her PhD at Cambridge. Prior to her university studies, she managed a windsurfing centre in Egypt for two years, worked in France and Corsica and spent time in Brazil and Australia.

Murray Edwards President Dorothy Byrne said: 'We are delighted Victoria will be joining the College as Senior Tutor. She comes to Murray Edwards at an exciting time: in our 70th year we are working harder than ever on outreach initiatives to ensure we attract brilliant, ambitious young women to our college, no matter what their background. Victoria’s extensive experience in admissions and dedication to academic excellence will undoubtedly enrich our community.

'I would like to take this opportunity to thank her predecessor, Dr Andrew Rudd, and our Fellow Dr Michele Gemelos, who has generously returned to her previous College position to become acting Senior Tutor over the summer.'
