President's Welcome

Murray Edwards is a friendly and hugely welcoming community. We were founded 70 years ago to provide more places and opportunities at Cambridge for ambitious and brilliant young women, no matter what their background.

Today, we continue that mission, but many of our academics and staff are men and we welcome people of all genders to visit and stay with us and socialise in our great café and bar. Based in spectacular Grade II* modernist buildings and surrounded by lovely gardens, we stand in the centre of the colleges on the hill. We're home to the Women’s Art Collection, the biggest collection of women’s art in Europe.

It’s a relaxed setting just a few minutes’ walk from the busy city centre – as well as all the University departments in West Cambridge. We offer a brilliant Cambridge education in a modern, comfortable home – and it's a place that our students love very much.

We provide a unique level of support through the Gateway Programme which offers all new students a special programme of study and research skills to ensure they succeed from the start, a personal development programme throughout their time with us and practical careers and networking advice as they prepare to leave Cambridge. Our Directors of Studies are noted for their teaching skills and their commitment to ensuring every student has the attention and support they need. We have an outstanding new Wellbeing service for all students, which includes events and activities throughout the year.

All our First Year students live in Pearl House, a beautiful modern block set in the gardens. Bedrooms are large and there are proper kitchens with ovens, freezers and tables to sit and eat together. You can also eat in our famous Dome dining hall, where we run themed formal dinners every week.
